The first fallen leaf

Seasons change...

I noticed it as I was cycling the other day, the unmistakable staccato crunch of tires on dry leaves, the rhythm of one season defiantly giving way to the next, possibly long before many of us are ready.

Then on this morning’s walk, Calli the Wonderschnauzer stopped to admire this single leaf in the low-angled sun. She gently bumped it with her nose a few times before sneezing and moving on to the nearest tree stump.

Since she doesn’t have her own calendar, and she’s never asked to read mine, I don’t think she much cares what date it is, or whether the seemingly sudden appearance of falling leaves is the travesty of time so many humans seem to think it is. I think she was happy to just be outside amid the shifting sights, sounds, and smells of an ever-changing landscape.

I figure she’s like most dogs in that they just don’t worry about this stuff. So I’m going to follow her lead and do the same.
