A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Wordless Wednesday - Old brick, new hope
Facadist riot of color
London, ON, April 2008 [Click to embiggen]
Sometimes, inspiration is as close as the other side of the sidewalk.
Your turn: I often believe that buildings have stories to tell. What might the story of these buildings be?
One more thing: We're still accepting submissions for this week's Caption This contest. Click here to cue the fun. You know you want to...it's Elmo!

ReplyDeleteI love this photo! (Do I say that every week?) When I see buildings like this, I think of all the people who have lived in them and all the everyday dramas that have taken place there.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture, Carmi.
ReplyDeleteMy post is here. Happy WW!
Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteSorry... no good story today, but I love this shot.
ReplyDeleteI love the color and can only imagine the many lives that played out in these buildings... who knows what drama took place inside or the emotion or creativity. One could write a short story for every window!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and please join me here for my WW post if you can:
Just Some Thoughts
I love it, Carmi! I love architecture, and I love old buildings getting fresh looks. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love that the buildings are different even though they are connected! The colors are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOh boy...these buildings have so many stories to tell! Stories of people who lived and died there, stories of change, of joy, triumph, despair, and grief. Pictures like this just make me dream.
ReplyDeleteI've got a question to be answered over on my WW today too...come on by!

A story of three friends with three very different lives brought together by living in these three houses. Great shot!
ReplyDeleteHi Carmi
ReplyDeletePlaying catchup again, this photo is motivating me to go and shoot some of the old buildings around our small town from early 1900s or late 1800s. They are slowly but surely tearing them down and I really need to get out there to capture them before they are gone.
Lori
I love it - it says so much about people, especially those that believe in beautifying their space in the world. Excellent share.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Holly
I love the colors and textures of this shot. With this shot, you've managed to pique my curiosity, and now I wonder what is happening in each of the windows!
ReplyDeleteinteresting photo!
ReplyDeletehappy ww
i love buildings like this!!! My brother lives in Baltimore in row house just like these...
ReplyDeleteReally neat shot! I try to look for things others would just pass by, too.
ReplyDeleteAt one of the monuments in Washington DC, I got down on the ground and shot up. People looked at me like I was nuts, but as I was leaving, I noticed others doing the exact same thing. :)
I love old buildings like that.. I often wonder what stories those walls hold as well... I took a ton of pictures of buildings when I was in New York and London, England last fall...
ReplyDeleteHi Carmi,
ReplyDeleteI would have loved to have lived in one of these at a time when people really cared about each other and looked after each other. The person on the other side was your neighbor, "part of your family," - not just another body on the other side of the wall.
I think you know Anna Carson - did you know she's doing a Project Green this week? I caught the unexpected green up in the corner of your photo.
Thanks so much for coming by my WW and leaving such a nice comment.
Happy WW to you too!
Windows make you wonder what is happening inside. Imagination runs wild and stories abound.
ReplyDeleteNice pic.
Homesick! You are reminding me of rows and rows of brownstones in Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteMy WW today is the full moon at Disney World.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words over at my place.
ReplyDeleteI think the yellow building in the middle is feeling a bit melancholy about her bushy eyebrows. :)
Happy WW

Fantastic!! This pic speaks to me of individuality and unity.
ReplyDelete:)
Nice city shot! Do buildings like that share an interior wall? Or do they each have their own?
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great shot! There are some areas in Pittsburgh that look a lot like that, actually. I think row houses are so charming.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog, and I SO wish I had that flexibility!
I love the individuality of the buildings. Just like the people who inhabit them probably are!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! Happy WW!
OOO I recognise that area LOL
ReplyDeleteGreat WW.
Aline
I think they tell the story of so many families who've lived there over the years.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the story but it reminds me of my beloved San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteVery nice shot!
ReplyDeleteI love photos like this…..reminds me of a time when people were still part of a community…..People in today’s world want to be left to themselves…..what happened to folks just hanging out on the front porch or front stoop, in the early evenings, waving to their neighbor’s and saying “how are you today”…..neighborhood block parties, enjoying someone’s company, other than just your own.
ReplyDeleteOkay so maybe not everyone else got this from this photo.....
Thank you for stopping by the Circus!

Different colors make the street more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what their thinking individually, but collectively they are probably thinking the rent's too high ;)
If walls could talk, I am sure they would have one heck of a story to tell!
ReplyDeleteCarmi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and leaving a comment! Love this shot~ it reminds me of walking in Charleston, SC.
I love WW! I have never taken so pictures- it has been FUN!
And, Abigail will love that picture at the dr.'s office, I am sure. Don't know if my 12 yr. old boy will appreciate his potting training pictures as much.... ;)
Nice to "meet" you!
great picture! As a former New York City girl, I have always loved the look of brownstones! I'm sure each window has a different story to tell.
ReplyDeleteBTW - Thanks for stopping by my place! I love to share my life others!
Blessings!
Story of the 3 buildings.
ReplyDeleteRay's Revenge.
Jim and Eli decided to pep up the neighborhood with some spicey Venetian colors, evoking some life and joie de vive. But because Jim never returned Ray's Paint Sprayer, Ray never spoke to him again, and purposefully painted over his Tuscan Red home to a flat ugly grey, bringing the property value down. Ray's revenge.

I am soooo behind on replying to comments! Beautiful picture! I believe it is wordless-lol. I can't find the words to describe it. If I had to choose which building to live in it would be the middle one-yellow is my favorite color! Thanks so much for visiting mine
