In the mountain shadows Las Vegas, NV November 2019 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
To wit, Las Vegas from my hotel room balcony, captured on the morning before we headed home a year ago November.
It isn't the strip. There isn't any neon or glitz or glamour. Just a sprawling city growing so quickly it seems to be bumping into the mountains that surround it.
This photo reminds me that people live here, and many of them have nothing to do with the things that made this city famous. It's also a gentle reminder that sometimes you have to get yourself out of the valley of the expected so you can appreciate things you might have otherwise missed.
Strangely, I miss this place, and hope we get to return here after this insanity fades into history. Until then, landscape photos from windswept high-rise balconies will do nicely as placeholders.
