Okay, I stared up while she munched on the grass. And if I’m being honest with myself, it didn’t look all that different from the countless other times we’ve trudged out here and waited for the sky to do something special.
But milestones don’t always announce themselves with fanfare. Often they slip silently into the past, leaving it up to those of us on the ground to decide if it was worth it at all to get ourselves out there.
For what it’s worth, it’s always worth it to show up. The reward isn’t so much the show that may or may not play out. It’s the quiet journeys back and forth that shape the memories of the moment.
Maybe we’re alone, maybe we’re not, and maybe our travel companions insist on eating the grass.
But at least we got out there.
