While Calli the Wonderschnauzer is quite well trained, and responds to a wide range of hand and voice commands, putting her stuff away when she’s done with it isn’t really her thing. Which, frankly, is exactly the way it should be. She’s a dog, after all, and this little bit of underfoot chaos is part of the deal we all make when a pup becomes part of the family.
Yet I can’t stop staring at her beloved blue ball sitting on the floor reflecting the Sunday morning light streaming through the patio doors. And soon enough I’m reaching for a camera, dropping to the floor, and composing the scene playing out between the light and shadow.
And as I try to avoid bumping my head on the table, I smile at the notion of spontaneous magic playing out at our feet courtesy of a dog who just wants to enjoy her time on this planet.
Because we can either feel frustrated at the mess, or blessed that we had a mess to play with in the first place.
