See, it’s her birthday, and she taught me long ago that birthdays deserve to be celebrated. And so we shall.
It’s no stretch to describe her as the foundation of our family. Our gravity, even. She has answers to every question, sure, but beyond that she’s always so…present. She’ll be there no matter the time of day or whatever else she may have going on at the moment. She shows up and puts the needs of everyone else before her own.
Before meeting her, I had no idea what unconditional humanity was like, or how it felt to be connected to someone who led with empathy. She’s like the wingman who always has not just my six, but everyone in our tightly knit family. If we call her Goose, at least you’ll know why.
And as special as today is, I promise we’ll all feel the same way tomorrow - and will make sure the celebration doesn’t end just because the calendar says so. Some folks, after all, deserve it a little more.
