Letters Keep Pouring In

Maybe it isn't a torrent, but this morning's Free Press includes another letter in response to this week's column. London's Betty Howard has become my new best friend (with apologies to my existing cadre of best friends...though maybe you should write letters, too.) Here's what she wrote:

Canada's Olympians win respect, admiration

Regarding Carmi Levy's column, Olympic victories go beyond medals (Aug. 26):

I was incensed with the negative reporting on the Olympic athletes who had problems on the field at Athens. All of these athletes deserve praise for their trials as well as wins. Also, being chosen for such honourable games is a badge of honour to be respected by us all.

Levi's (sic) article was commendable and truly gave the respect and admiration due to those athletes. Whether they win or lose, in my book they have already won.

Thank you, Team Canada, and all athletes who participate in the Olympic Games at Athens.

Me too. Alexandre Despatie has been huge in diving since breaking through onto the world stage as a pre-teen prodigy. He was so gracious in winning his silver, though. And that, to me, exemplifies the Olypic spirit.

Maybe next time. Until then, if the world has at least a few people with his character, we'll all be OK after all.

Carmi - you can't just write letters to the editor and pretend they're from someone else! Just kidding, of course. That's great that you're getting so much attention!

LOL...All those $20 bills I've been throwing around seem to be having the desired effect :)

Thanks for the kind words. It's neat when total strangers feel as they do, and take the time to share their thoughts so publicly. I feel really humbled by the experience.
