Reflecting over a bunch of glasses

The pandemic took so much away from us - but in some ways it also changed us for the better.

Exhibit A: these glasses.

They were sitting in the kitchen of our friends’ home. As we all gathered around the central island and caught up since our last gathering, I stepped back a bit and found myself listening to the warm buzz of the room.

I do that often, and my friends get the why. If I pull a camera out to remember the moment, they smile that understanding smile that only true friends can. I’m a lucky human, indeed.

Since we all began reconnecting after COVID started to slip into the past, I found myself appreciating these moments even more than I might have previously.

Maybe being stuck connecting to each other exclusively via videoconference made us appreciate these in-person get-togethers a little more after the lockdowns ended.

I know it’s changed me, and I no longer take simple moments like these for granted. They matter to us far more than we once thought.
