Rhino amid the trees

As an F/A-18F Super Hornet belonging to the U.S. Navy’s Gladiators fleet replacement squadron splits the skies over the runway at London International Airport, I find myself thinking about the two birds doing lazy orbits in the distance.

What are they thinking? Is all the noise frightening to them? Or are they simply amused at the strange metallic object designed to mimic what nature has been doing pretty much forever?

We’ll never know, of course. But the moment, captured unintentionally as I panned my lens across the sky, serves as a poignant reminder that we’re always sharing spaces with others.

And sometimes that sharing is a little noisy. Ugly, even. Conversely, sometimes it’s a little more symbiotic, collaborative, kind.

So either way we look out for each other. Maybe even shift our path around a little to make life a little easier on whoever else may be nearby. Understand them, even.

At least that’s the hope.
