And as I held her tiny, squirming form for the first time 28 years ago today, my only wish was that she would turn the limitless potential every newborn has into a life of purpose.
28 years on, purpose is Dahlia’s middle name. And creativity. And drive. And honesty. And humour. And love of family.
She appreciates the preciousness of time, and looks out for others even if they aren’t always looking out in return. She inherited her mom’s innate kindness and made it her own.
So as we celebrate her birthday, I can’t help but think back to that first moment I held her, all bundled in pink, and wished those wishes every parent wishes for their kids. 28 years on, she’s doing a pretty good job making those wishes come true.
Happy birthday, Peanut. Keep making the world your own.
