Safe at home

I got home late last night and promptly tucked my weary head into bed. Travel doesn't agree with me. I'm a very comfortable flyer, but I don't enjoy being away from home and off my routine.

So coming home and waking up with a kindergartner's head resting on my shoulder was a very grounding experience for me. The early-morning patter that echoed through the house as we all got ready for work and school was music to my ears. I'm sure I'll view the morning routine less poetically next week, but being away for a bit sure does heighten one's appreciation of these little things.

I think today's picture is a cool one. I was lucky to have a brief while to walk around Boston's Back Bay and downtown core around the Prudential building. This one's taken from an alley behind the Sheraton, and includes both buildings in stark, geometric relief. Who says modern architecture is uniformly boring?

There's no place like home. :o)We'll have to get you a pair of ruby slippers Carmi!! Isn't it funny how the most boring and mundane things, like making the kids lunch, or feeding the dog, can be the most comforting and grounding experiences. We humans are creatures of habit, as much as we try to deny it. :o)

Boring? Boring? Bah! It creates a landscape like none other, and your picture proves it. Beautfiful - I can't pull my eyes away from it.

Glad you're home safely!

Hi Carmi - Your children are so lucky to have such a loving Dad!
Michele sent me, but I would have stopped by anyway!

Carmi, I hope you are enjoying your weekend at home with the children and Morah Mommy. We are having thunderstorms at present, and we need rain so badly that I will not fuss about them, but I'll probably have to turn off the computer very soon.

Great image. I seem to be the opposite of you though, I love traveling. I do that much better than the same ol same ol of being home. Oh that I could have a job that required a great deal of travel....

Michele sent me. Have a great weekend.

Modernist architecture boring? No way! As with any other style/period, there's both good and bad. I decided to go to architecture school while living in Boston, which has more wonderful architecture than do most American cities.

That photo looks a little familiar. I remember my visit to Boston one thing I noticed was the somewhat jarring contrast in traditional and modern architecture.

I rarely get to travel without my posse of 2 kids and husband, but in August I was away for Two! Whole! Nights! I called them about every 5 minutes. And seeing them run out yelling "mommy mommy" when the car drove up was wonderful.
