The second day of the year is a fine time to introduce (cue the deep, boomy voice) another photograhic mystery. I took this picture while wandering around the neighborhood near work. Beyond that, I won't provide any additional clues. I hope you'll answer the following two questions in a comment:
- What do you think this is?
- What does it remind you of?

I think this is a grating in the road, taken from a funny angle.
What does it remind me of? A grating in the road!
Great picture. If I'm wrong I'll look forward to finding out what it is!
Hoping you have had a wonderful festive season and wishing you a happy and healthy new year from across the pond.
A wrought-iron railing? I realize that is a boring answer, but it is all I can come up with right now.
Looks like a fence, photographed from an angle...
...but it reminds me of a zebra. :)
First - 'A Happy New Year' to you and your family, second the photo could be of iron railings?
if it is horizontal ( as presented) i guess a railing (ballusters?)
it reminds me of the progression of time and is SO like a pic I took of the piano keyboard.
i posted the piano keys and a poem
What do you think this is?
I think it is either a fence of sorts or a bench.
What does it remind you of?
It reminds me of a zebra oddly enough.
I think it's a section of a bench!
Another great photo though!
A really, really big zebra! :)
I think it's a railing of some sort.
At first glance it looked like painted stripes.
Happy New Year, Carmi.
It looks like the grille on a car....
it's an optical illusion that makes your head spin!
I took 100 pictures of my Christmas tree last night...why, I don't know, but I did. I'll see if anything's worth posting sometime.
It looks like a shadow cast by a fence or a bench.
Great shot!
I believe this is a closeup shot of a fence of some sort.
It makes me think of the smooth jazz...the symmetry is excellent.
These are the slats on the back of a park bench...and they remind me of a zebra. Okay...totally wrong, I'm sure...but you said no wrong answers, so I'm golden!
sir - your reply is requested...
Not a clue what it is, but it reminds me of the suit Michael Keaton wore in BeetleJuice. Sad but true...I'm just tired!
It looks like the spindles in the railing of a bridge. Perhaps it's because I'm contemplating all the figurative bridges before me.
The image looks like the great gills of a fish that allow to dive deep down in the sea where it's dark and peaceful. I imagine that the mighty gills allow the fish to breathe easily in spite of the enormous water pressure on its body.
1. Possibly a cloth awning, although I have no idea why one would be out in winter.
2. Zebras
or rail...I am grasping here. I love the lines on this! I am always fascinated by lines.
Do you remember the orignal speedos from way back that were striped like that? I'm thinking you passed an elephant wearing a striped speedo.
Nah.......
How about..... You found an old Psychology text with a chapter on perception.......this illusion is part of the Rorschach?
Nah.......
The railings of a 1950's gate to an apartment building?
OR.......
A bicycle rack?
Or
The railings on the Gorilla cage at the zoo?
OK........I'm done...........am I close? :)
It looks like either a bench or a fence.
Ok so what is it Carmi?
A metal bench. But that has probably already been guessed. If it is, I have some similar shots, not as good, but same idea.
Are you going to tell us what we are looking at Carmi??? :)
I've kept this one shrouded for long enough. My apologies. Here's what it is...
This is the wood bannister at the Banting House National Historic Site. I wrote about it here:

It's the kind of place that invites a quiet walk with a camera. I will return soon, since it's merely steps away from my office.
Thanks, everyone, for your wonderful contributions to the discussion. You're all remarkably creative!
