Part of a balanced breakfast

Having a look at the menu
Deerfield Beach, Florida, December 2006

On the last day of the year, we went out for breakfast. Because I didn't want to end the year with any degree of inconsistency, I brought my camera along and noodled around with it before the food arrived.

Sharp-eyed readers will recall that we went to this place, Shelby's, last year. I'm happy to report that not a whole lot had changed after 12 months. It was still an unspoiled little slice of the way it used to be.

I thought a closer look at the menu would tell the story of this place better than any words could.

Your turn: I hope you'll click on the image and let your eyes linger for a bit. You might begin to notice details that suggest this isn't a slick franchise operation. And that's a very good thing indeed, wouldn't you agree?

I loved looking at the larger image Carmi.

Mainly because it is 11:30 at night here and I would love a plate of hot pancakes! They dont make those here and you can't good syrup. When we have visitors I have them bring mix and syrup in their suitcase...we are always "importing" our favorites!

Great...now I am having a craving! :)

Carmi I can hear the sounds, smell the smells and just "see" that restaruant.

Now I have a craving for some good 'ol fashioned breakfast food!

I just finished dinner, and now I am hungry again. I could eat breakfast 3 times a day and never get tired of it!

No chain restaurant ever has a handwritten menu....LOL....or so many choices!

I love old throw-back diners like that. There are a few around my home here in Sacramento. It's so much nicer than going to Denny's or Lyon's. the food is better, bigger and usually cheaper.

What I like best, however, is the matter-of-fact, almost surly attitude of the wait person/sometimes owner.

Due to new rules over at Michele's, she has been so far unable to send me over - but since I am an independent, self-assertive and tenacious - I came over anyway!

That brings back memories, my Father refused to eat anywhere that was a chain resturant & diners in railroad cars were his all time favorite. We heard a lot of his memories any time he took my Brother & myself out for breakfast.

I love that photo. I have to think of something new to say, because I say that about all of your photos.

Hand written gives it that personal touch and it's perfectly legible . Also it gets my juices flowing - I love blueberries. Maaybe breadfast is my favourite meal - right now anyway!

Here on my own.
This reminds me of the little family restaurant at the bottom of the hill in Florence, Italy. Not only was it hand written on little bits of paper, it was written new each day depending on the meats, fruits and vegetables available. This was just as well, since I know absolutely no Italian and the waiters knew minimal English. We pointed, hoped for the best and were never disappointed.

That reminds me of a diner I had breakfast in while I was in New York. I just loved the waffle with fresh fruit!

Carmi, I've been out of the loop for a few days so I'm just catching up. I love this one. Why is it that we know breakfast is gonna be great at a place where the menu is handwritten??

Love the way the word 'breakfast' reflects in the lens!
