Sad porch
London, ON
November 2008
Sometimes, it's best that we simply don't know.
Quick note: This is the final shot in support of last week's Thematic Photographic theme, broken. If you'd like to submit something, it's not too late. Please click here. And while you're here, we're also taking caption suggestions for Caption This...here.
Our next theme, which will be posted here at precisely 7:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, will be sweet.
Why sweet? There's just too much sadness and mirth in the world. Every headline is gloomier than the last, and you can hear it in people's voices when they speak. Heck, I can hear it in my own voice. And it scares me a little.
So to combat the blanket of sadness that seems to be settling over the collective us, I'm hoping we can use pictures to tell a sweet story over the next week. It's a wide-open theme this time out. Are you game?
Your turn: Please begin mulling over your sweet-themed contributions to the upcoming TP. And in the meantime, want to hazard a guess as to what happened to this poor door?

What a bleak exterior. I wonder what it looks like inside.

Hmn...someone got chisel happy!? Or someone tried to remove something that was mounted ontop!
I really like the doggie statue next to it though..
Neat WW!
i am just so done with the gloominess in the air around moi......so yes, the theme is most welocme :)
Kinda looks like the shadowy characters from my Wordsmiths Challenge post came calling. Bo, I take that back. The house is still standing.
I can think of a great many explanations for the door coming to be in the state it is... But they're all pretty grim.
And who needs that??
But I don't see a doggie statue... I see a folding chair, an old coffee can, and a gas meter. Am I missing something? I know my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but I can usually spot a dog or dog-like substance pretty quick.
I had a sweet post earlier this week for Lensday... but that's a little too obvious. Time to find something uniquely sweet... could be a challenge... but there's always puppies if I can't find anything else.
It looks like someone took an axe to it. Or someone SHOULD take an axe to it.
It's like Bleak Street.
Interesting photo about bleakness and misery. So sad the story it hides.
I think the sweet theme will be be awesome.Do kittens count ? or maybe something edible...got my thinking cap on now.
My real Wordless Wednesday is up now ...I got sidetracked by adding words (naughty I know)
I saw in your about me profile about random acts of kindness - that is really awesome.
Have you seen the post called Build an A.R.K - Acts of Random Kindness.
It looks like someone really kicked it hard.
Hated missing out on the "broken" theme. No time when family has been sick.
Someone is living a hard existence there behind those doors.
You're right, that is a very sad porch. I'm glad I don't have a porch, so it will never look like that.

looks like a door I had to knock on today.
Sweet is a goodie photo theme....like the upcoming theme. will be thinking about it tomorrow.....
No preventative maintanance was done and over time it starts to fall apart piece by piece and is left drab and dreadful.... nothing a little match and can of gas can't fix... oh I mean maybe some time and care via sandblast and paint... I love seeing old fixtures fixed up!!
I can't guess what would have happened to it, but I hope it must have got repaired. Nice shot and you made me think. :)
What a great use of b/w in this picture. I know I don't want to open that door...
Carmi, thanks for the visit. When I got up and saw that drawing in the beach sand - I RAN to get my camera before someone messed with it. I simply could NOT believe the synchronicity of it; I must be truly blessed!!
Hmm, is it the doorway that is truly unwelcome, or merely unwelcoming? One wonders...
But I like the sweet theme you've got going next... we do need more sweetness in this world. :)
Ouch! I wonder what it look like inside?!
It's just so desolate and sad. Well composed shot. Looking forward to "sweet." Maybe I can get back into TP.
That is a sad porch.

Happy WW and Happy Thanksgiving.
I'm thinking about urban nature and sweet themes. will rummage through my digital archives.
looks like this used to be a nice place. great shot!
That is definitely the door that happiness forgot. Maybe instead it's just the results of an overly zealous keg party? Still damaged, but at least with happier memories.
Sweetness works for me, we can all use some of that right now.
Looks like the fire department tried to enter unsuccessfully. Very powerful shot, but bleak. Glad to hear the new theme will be sweet, we could all use a little of that right now, as you mention.
Check out my WW post at:

What time can you post on WW homesite? I tried starting at midnight and couldn't do it, now it is 3am and there are 67 people in front of me? I am new and still learning so I would appreciate any help you can provide.
Thank you!
Was it forcibly mutilated by angry tenants due to mortgage issues?
We are experiencing such hard times.
I have to say, this is the kind of place I would love to explore. I am so interested in abandoned locations.
Happy WW!
With Thanksgiving being tomorrow, I have been focusing on what is sweet in my life. There is a lot. My family being first. Actually I don't need to think any further than that.
That doorway is definitely abused. Not sure I want to know why. Might be a really tragic story and for the next 2 days at least I want to focus on the positive.
Nope, that is just too scary. It says violence to me. A lot of sadness.
Looking forward to sweet things tonight.
I really like this photo!!! Happy WW~ Mine's up here:

Happy thanksgiving...

you know I honestly don't want to consider that Carmi... images I would rather not have to conjur up...not that I am hiding from them really...
sweet sounds interesting, I havea day of tomorrow which means possible time, and if I do, I will give this a thought :) You never know!! Hope all is well with you, Katie, x
Wow, that really is a sad looking porch.
It is a quite depressing entry...

The White House
It certainly looks very unwelcoming. Are there anyone staying in that house? If there are, I am wondering what would the interior be like.
