Thematic Photographic 52 - Dusk

Red skies at night
London, ON, May 2009

Whenever I need a moment of inspiration, I often look to the sky. It's an ever changing, always fascinating canvas that seems to play nicely with my eyes and my camera. I'm willing to bet it'll play nicely with yours, too, so I'm hoping this week's Thematic Photographic theme gives you the opportunity to head out and take it all in.

With that in mind, the challenge for the coming week is a relatively simple one:
  • Wait until the sun begins to go down
  • Point your camera westward
  • Shoot
  • Repeat
Your turn: Time to get shooting. We'll be doing dusk all week long. If you're just getting started with Thematic Photographic, here's how it works:
  • Every Wednesday evening, at precisely 7 o'clock Eastern, I post a new Thematic Photographic entry.
  • Each entry has a unique theme. This week's is...dusk!
  • You post a similarly themed image over on your blog.
  • You paste a link to your entry in a comment here.
  • If you've already posted something that fits (on a blog, Facebook, MySpace, wherever) simply post the link to the existing entry. Old or new, all photos are welcome.
  • You may post as many photos or links as you wish. For the next week, I'll be supporting this theme with a related picture/posting each day. I encourage you to do the same. This is all about sharing, so feel free to share to your heart's content!
  • Please share this link with friends, too, and encourage them to join in. The more, the merrier.
  • And please accept my thanks for your enthusiasm. Your participation has made TP a true highlight for me each and every week.

Sailor's delight!!! Inspiration beyond my imagination....that's how I feel as I watch the glory of the evening sky. To think that dusk only lasts such a short blink, but leaves an impression we don't have words to describe.

Cheers to you Carmi....am off to take in the beauty of tonight's show down by the river...! It is bound to be a photo grabber.

Thought I'd drop by. It's been quite a while. That is a seriously beautiful shot. I'm tempted to join but so far we've mostly been getting grey skies and rain in the p.m.

Looks like you had a very cooperative sky that evening! Mine was a little earlier in the evening perhaps, but definitely dusk. It's probably my favorite time of day (as I've probably mentioned ad infinitum before). So here's a little "Sunset to Go"

Thematic Photographic 52: "Dusk" v.1.0

You have captured the colors in the sunset I love the best! Doesn't dusk make photographers of all of us? Thanks, Carmi, and here are a few of mine.

There is nothing I love more than beautiful colors on the clouds at dusk.

Years ago, when my husband and I had first started talking about moving out of Texas, we were driving home from a town about an hour away. The sun was setting and the sky was on fire. My husband asked me simply, 'Do you think you could really leave that?' And we haven't, yet.

Here is my entry for Dusk:

It's a beautiful sky contest. Will any of us post a more striking sky than Carmi's? I'm not sure.

Mine will be up soon. Dusk at the beach.

Gorgeous color n close-up of cloud texture so far away-

Bet you have a UV filter-
How often I wished I had your cam when I can't get a clear zoom shot! Don't know if I'll do any Dusk this week- been all cloudy n humid here, more n more showers. Only seen a deep red like that one here once so far, shown in the archive http://snaggedt.blogspot.com/2006/12/sunset-shimmer.html

I tried to get a picture of our sky at dusk last night, but we had thunderstorms going through.. lots of gray and black. I much prefer the reds and pinks of your sky.

Isn't it.. red sky at morning, sailors take warning. Red sky at night, sailor's delight? I have heard that the sunsets around areas with active volcanoes are absolutely gorgeous with the light refracted by the ash particles.

I couldn't decide between my country shot or my city shot... so you get both this week. Mine is up here.

What a great photo. In order for me to see the sunset (or rise), I have to get in the car and drive a few miles. There are so many trees around here, I don't get to see the sun set often.

Coincidence; I did Sunset yesterday and looked at Dana's blog today - so here is my link..

Ok, this is not a correct entry to the topic "dusk".
But "Clouds" are a beautiful sight to behold! And you know what - this season in this part of the world has an amazing display of clouds. Would u like to visit and click a few good snaps?

dusk...
that would be the magical times when we're not entirely certain of what's happening?
Loved those times as a child.
Love them still.

I have a passion for the sky, especailly sunrise. I have many pictures of sunrise, only a few of sunset. it is hard to tell the difference. I love all of your photos, this one is beautiful as it is one of my favrite subjects. I do not know how to add a link here to my website, but if you go to this link you will see the sunrise on Christmas Morning at Bradenton Beach Fl with these same colors. we almost missed it and i am so grateful we did not.
