A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.
If everyone was satisfied with himself, there would be no heroes.Your turn: Who's your hero? Why?

The ordinary men and women who get by in the most extraordinary (yet quiet)ways !
As they say one extra ordinary machine can do the job of a 100 men. No extra oridnary machine can do the job of one extra ordinary human being !
If I could choose to sit down and have dinner with one person it would be Jimmy Carter. He may not have been the best President the U.S. ever had, but he is by far the best ex-President. With Habitat for Humanity and the things he has done to ensure free elections in third world countries, he has done more for democracy than all the wars "in the name of democracy" other Presidents have waged.
Furthermore, as President in the late 70's, he insisted we needed to do something about our obscene Federal Debt (less than $1 trillion at the time) and our dependence on foreign oil. I often wonder what our world would be like now if we had heeded his warnings about those two things, had sacrificed at the time to eliminate that debt and fostered the use of renewable sources of energy. Would 9-11 have happened? And the subsequent wars and civil rights infractions?
The man was way ahead of his time, which probably had a lot to do with his political demise.
My brother.
For twenty years he has been a quadriplegic. Every day he goes to work. He never complains. He uses his brain to it's fullest. He has never blamed anyone else for his situation. He is always quick to answer questions about his condition. He is always gracious. He is grateful for everything he has, and every day he is given. He doesn't think of himself as special or heroic but he his. He inspires everyone who meets him, simply by being himself.
He surely is my hero.
