Lean in a little

To most folks, it's just sand, something that burns your feet as you make your way down to the water, and something that sticks to them as you wander back out. It finds its way into every nook and cranny, and keeps appearing, unwelcome, for months to come, as you fetch groceries, cart kids and give lifts to parents who berate you for not cleaning your car more often.

At first glance, it's monolithic, monotone and absolutely not worth a closer look, the aesthetic equivalent of the grit that accumulates around the light poles in the mall parking lot. But if you crane your neck just a little, you realize there's more to this stuff than meets the eye.

At least that's what I found myself thinking on this brilliantly sunny day at the crowded lakeshore.

Your turn: What else in your life is worth a closer look?

lovely colours - but this is sand?? sand here is fine, like coarse flour, and white or golden.
