My eye is drawn to patterns like a child is drawn to a bowl of fudge-topped ice cream. When I saw these pristine plates in the restaurant of our hotel, I had to take a closer look. What really got me was how they were lit. The countertops were made of a translucent, brightly-backlit surface. I liked the resulting glow from below.

Until you said that they were plates, I thought (briefly of course) they were a pile of old vinyl records!!!

i love the colour of the plates and how they seem to capture the light between them
The last time I saw stacks like that they were gold charger plates belonging to my boss. We had used them for a banquet of about 900 people and the wait staff was supposed to remove them after the salad course. They forgot, and when we had to pack them up and take them back to the shop, they were covered in food residue and rapidly beginning to smell or mold. It was awful! So, this is not exactly a good image for me...LOL
The first thing that came to mind as the web page loaded was LP records. It wasn't until I looked at the picture for another second that I realized they are plates.
Back again, via Michele. Carmi, the Circle K is a convenience store, at least here, it is.
They do look like records. Thanks for visiting me and if you really do want to vote in the next presidential election despite your Canadian citizenship, come down to Chicago. If dead relatives and pets can vote, so can you!
Is the mystery in the color of the plates? I was wondering... are they white? Are they black?
I love that they look so dark! Very different from the stacks of plates we used to have at school for dinner (shudder)! The lighting of the shot is cool. I love that you notice these things and capture them.

Actually I looked at your photo before your title, and it looked like a stack of plates to me. When I saw the title and looked at it again, I thought.. hmm, it could also be an articulated robot arm...

The color is what strikes me. Just looking at it makes me want a cup of hot chocolate...and it's 100 degrees outside!

Hi, Carmi. Here from Michele's tonight. Interesting stacka plates. I was in the restaurant business for 17 years, so I've seen many a stack. I never would have thought to take a picture. You've got good eyes.

If you scroll down and don't look at the top of the plates, they definitely look like records.
And as for your reply on my blog. . . have you ever seen the Canadian movie WayDowntown? It's about a group of young professionals who make a bet to see who can go the longest without going outside, what with all the underground tunnels and such. But I think it took place in Calgary.
