What's left of shiny

Expensive leftovers
London, ON, August 2009

What starts life as aesthetic perfection often ends up a forlorn pile, ignored in the shadows by those who pass mere footsteps away.

A sobering thought on so many levels, no?

Your turn: After the shine wears off, what's left?

About this photo: Thematic Photographic's week of shininess ends tomorrow at 7 p.m. when we unveil the new theme for the coming week (new theme suggestions welcome.) Until then - and even beyond, as deadlines apply only in the real world, not in my make-believe blog one - please feel free to click here to share your own shiny vision.

It is a good thing that shiny stays in many things, but there are some that it must run out...but life goes on and we move on as well and put our sites on new shiny objects.

Ah, what a depressive sight...
Is it common to stumble upon images such as these in Canada? Here nothing broken or damaged is left in plain sight for too long.;)

To me, shine never wears off. Everything becomes even more precious with time. People and objects.

Sobering sight. I still haven't figured for sure what that used to be. Looks like it might be pieces of a car that ran afoul of... another car maybe.

Funny thing, "shine" is usually created by polishing something... which by definition is actually wearing away a part of the surface. So the shine doesn't actually wear off... something else has to be added on. Or something like that.

Of course you can "bolt on" shiny surfaces by chrome plating and such, but if the underlying surface is flawed, chroming it won't make it any less flawed. Just flawed and shiny.

I had a segue from that into my shiny finale, but it's escaped me just now. Oh well.

That is so sad. you said it Carmi "sobering on so many levels" when our kids are little we have to explain to them how dead is forever, too bad as adults we loss sight of that fact.
*hugs*

I have a feeling my city's going to look like this around this time next week, or whenever the stupid G20 summit will be over...

Oops, that doesn't look good at all - I mean the photo is great - just sad to see treasure into trash.
