On dirty art

"Art washes away from the soul the dirt of everyday life."
Pablo Picasso
I did a neat thing with my wife today: We wandered through a few art galleries. We didn't have much of an agenda beyond spending the day together and reminding ourselves why days like today are so treasured.

Along the way, we learned about artists whose work literally turned our definition of "art" on its ear. And inspired us to return to our own admittedly pedestrian artistic pursuits with a little more vigor. Whoever we are and whatever we do, we've all got an artist's voice. And Picasso's words, which we literally bumped into as we exited the last gallery of the day, couldn't have been better composed or timed.

Your turn: What does art mean to you?

Art tells a story, also it entails emotion of the artist... shows the passion and views of the artist and what he wants to tell the viewer.. Art is the legacy that the artist creates long after he has passed. Art, theatre, anything creative teaches others. My husband and I have bought our fair share and have taken the kids to museums.. Now, my two oldest do their fair share of collecting what they like..

Art is one of the most important things in my life. I reckon Kalei's BF has already said it far better than I could have: "Art tells a story, also it entails emotion of the artist... shows the passion and views of the artist and what he wants to tell the viewer.. Art is the legacy that the artist creates long after he has passed. Art, theatre, anything creative teaches others."

Much of art has to do with what it does to you on the inside; how you feel, where it takes your thoughts, how you respond. I'm not sure I can adequately articulate these thoughts. I don't believe there's any one (or few) statements that would encompass this - art is so broad and so varied, as are the people who create and view it. Interesting to ponder, though.
