Punch buggies are everywhere

Small towns alongside the Trans-Canada Highway share their secrets in fits and starts, with picture-perfect main drags giving way to spectacular cliffs rising out of Great Lakes, and endless stretches of supertall evergreens filling in the rest.

Every once in a while we’ll roll past a crumbling, graffiti-covered motel, or, in this case, a lonely garage with a motley collection of old cars parked haphazardly outside. Where an icon of automotive history bakes under the midday sun, a silent witness to a world few of those driving through bother to ask about.

I smile at the prospect of a yellow punch buggy being lovingly wrenched on beside the road that connects its dusty home to the outside world. I imagine this being the humble start of an epic journey in an epic machine.
