A little birdie told me

Our little community is home to some remarkable talent. Recently, a noted artist, Erica Reshef, opened a studio in our area. Known as ArtVenture, it's the answer to my wife's longstanding desire to take an art course and explore her potential. We've also registered our kids here, and this bird awaited our youngest son when I dropped him off earlier this month.
The studio faces west, so the late-autumn sun casts a brilliant light into the front of the studio. When it became clear that the weather would cooperate on this day, she set up these small birds on the floor and had the kids work with the shadows that they cast on the paper below.
My kid gets to explore this world laid out by an artist whose creativity and ability make most visitors' jaws drop when they see her work. Lucky him. Lucky us.
Your turn: An artistic experience that meant something to you. Please discuss.

hmmm...
I'd have to say going to the MOMA for the first time as a kid. Michele sent me and I'm glad she did - I haven't been by in a while.
I took my then 2 year old son to an MC Escher exhibit in DC. I held him on my hip and we walked right up to the "Hands drawing hands" sketch. He tightened up his face and recoiled, announcing, "I hate that picture."
I guess the distorted perspective was too much for him.
Hmmm ... can't say I've had an artistic experience.
But Michelle says hello :)
My Dad the electronics engineer took me to work Saturdays as a youngster, n I kept busy on the floor equipted with a large desk-blotter of paper n red n blue drafting pencils. After sometimes we'd stop in at the nearby zoo-
I began drawing animals there when I was 4. What I saw taught me.
I just knew Dad was drawing, n didn't know what...
It's great your family gets to have that opportunity!
I took an art course in middle school, even though I can't draw. We had to do a sketch of a potted plant. I worked on it for 2 days, improving greatly. My teacher watched every step of the way. When I turned it in she said something like "not the best i've seen", which I'm sure was true but it took all my desire for art away. I dropped the course the next day.
Oooo... I loved going to the Guggenheim in NYC!!! I had always referred to it as being "my Mecca!" It was being renovated at the time... but still oh so wonderful! And Monet was on exhibit... really terrific. I did the MOMA on that trip, too. Just being that girl from Iowa that got to see these precious works of art for the first time... in person!!! It was really something.
(BTW, wrote of another experience over on my blog - http://heidismoments.blogspot.com/2007/11/experience.html
Thanks for the inspiration, Carmi!)
