Sooner or later, we all have to leave home. Whether we do so for work, for family, for adventure, we invariably end up seeing things we'd never see from our kitchen window.
That's what I'm looking for with this week's Thematic Photographic theme, travel. If you've been away and took pictures, we want to see 'em. See the Your Turn section below for more. And happy shooting!
About this photo: Early morning from our 9th floor hotel room (FWIW, the Carlton on Madison Ave.) The kids were still asleep, and I, as ever, couldn't sleep. The soft light beckoned through the closed shades. So I peeked out the sides and liked what I saw: Slices of shadow and sunlight on an urban landscape that could only exist here in New York. A lovely and memorable way to start the day, don't you think?

My father had a Kodak Brownie and I have fond memories of sneaking off to shoot photos around my Grandmother's neighborhood in Michigan. This reminded me of those great memories!

Walking across Africa is travel ...
It is interesting how we in the Western World view travel as a necessity and a an integral part of our daily lives. In most cases it is not, its just our desire for new experiences or a pre-conditioning as we strive to to make ourselves more important. ~ and I love travel...
I had gone to a disputed area of North Africa to take photographs of the border areas and hinterlands as part of my Masters.
Gunboat 'diplomacy' was still taking place on some islands. I was on the mainland having travelled from Europe. Shortly after my visit a number of immigrants were shot trying to cross the border, while regularly others failed to make it in the treacherous seas.
The conditions were attrocious and the stench was unbearable. There were many refugees, some I met had walked up from Southern Africa and were waiting, hopefully, to get into Europe, attracted by the bright lights, cheap electrical goods and promise of prosperity.
Here are two images posted earlier and more recent ones will follow.

Travel? Today the only things travelling are our sideboard, a sofa, one mammoth desk and a dining table. I hope they're enjoying the process. Our dog are not!
