Winter may represent one of the more challenging seasons for photographers. And on occasion it'll downright mess up even the most carefully laid photographic plans.

But it's still quite the kick to get out there and at least try to make it work. The results may never be what we intended - or even come remotely close - but photography is hardly the only human endeavor that rarely plays out as we expect.

I have no idea if this photo represents my best work, and if we're being brutally honest I don't much care one way or the other. I enjoyed the process of capturing it, my wife liked it, and every time it shows up in my feed, the memory makes me smile.

That's all I need.
