I am speed London, ON September 2023 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
I’m just getting into editing the kajillions of pics I took at @airshowlondon last week, and thought this scene would be a fun one to start with.
It’s just after the pilot has rotated off the runway and is climbing those first few critical feet into the sky. The afterburner is voraciously turning fossilized dinosaur remains into a furious combination of acceleration and noise. On the ground we feel its passage as much as we see it.
As is often the case, the not-so-simple act of getting an F-16 into the air serves as a fascinating parallel to life.
We all start on the ground, so to speak, and we all look to the sky for both inspiration and aspiration.
Nothing happens until we decide to muster our energy and go full bore toward whatever it is that we seek.
It can be a frightening, risk-filled place, that sky above. But still we charge into it.
A reminder, perhaps, that sometimes it takes a little sound and fury and violence to make it happen.
I’m strangely fine with that.
