Is it real, or is it...?

Feeling reflective

You’d be forgiven for standing in this very spot by this rather lovely creek and wondering if what you see is, in fact, real.

Most of the scene, after all, is just a reflection in the water, which itself is constantly flowing. Nothing here is tangible, or permanent.

But here’s the thing: whether or not something is real has little, if anything, to do with whether or not you can touch it. Or whether it’ll still even be there if you move a little to the left.

What matters is the here and now. And how you feel when you encounter it.

And on this afternoon, deep in the woods as winter slowly pushes autumn aside, I stand by the water and feel enough of a something to lift my camera and remember what that something feels like in the first place.

Which makes it rather real to me. Which, in the end, is all that matters.
