Strange angle indeed London, ON April 2022 This photo originally shared on Instagram |
It wasn’t easy - thanks, stupid lungs - but it still felt good to get out and power myself across the city once again. I wasn’t alone on the trails, and everyone around me seemed to be smiling, which made it a little easier to spin the pedals a little harder.
The turnaround point was a bridge that’s been around for over a century, and after a painstaking restoration a few years back, should be up to carrying foot and bike traffic for at least another hundred years.
I pondered the best way to share the view this time out - the last time I was here I settled on a geometric exploration of the rivets on its main span - and eventually decided it might be fun to go underneath the deck.
I’m odd like that, but I’m sure you likely already knew that.
So here we are, looking straight up at the underside of the wood deck. Thanks to the engineers who first built it, and the ones who brought it back to life in 2013, we’re left with a structure that begs to be appreciated from any angle.
