Quick note: If you're just joining us, I've been taking my camera to seemingly desolate places - parking lots, crumbling downtown blocks and other forgotten locales - and challenging myself to find either beautiful, memorable or otherwise compelling images. This photo continues the theme...I came across this woman in a back alley during my downtown walkabout. I was using a longish lens, so I doubt she even knew I was there. While I was wandering around, there was a steady stream of folks coming and going - mostly to the nearby liquor store or bus station. I had no idea what this woman's story was, but as I took the picture, I wondered where she was coming from, where she was going, and whether she gave much thought to the tumultuous depression of her surroundings.

About last week's photo of a woman taking a walk: This photo touched a nerve in me as soon as I captured it. Awareness touched that same nerve with her caption, Spring in her step. She is a fellow Canadian, and an observer of the world around her who routinely inspires me to bring a little more introspection to my own. I deliberately "caption bombed" you last week. It must be spring, as I seem to have found my competitive streak! Must be due to the beginning of the hockey play-offs and the baseball season that has stirred my blood.
thank you for your kind words here. As I have told you before, I have learned a great deal from your photos and posts....and try incorporate it while I figure out my own camera angles. I've just posted a few I took this morning on my walk......hope you like them.

Ad as for your question, I would say no, if she lives there she probably doesn't even notice the rundown area. Unlike you camera bunnies, most of us never really look at our environment.

The red coat is such a standout in the bleakness of the neighborhood. How about "Red on Grey"

When I first looked at the photo my eye instantly caught the painted fence and wall. With the bright red jacket.

My jacket is the most colorful thing on this block. Except that graffiti.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot/They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum (Joni Mitchell, Big Yellow Taxi)
