Plenty of fish

Mostly in the same direction

There's nothing quite like an aquarium filled with a riot of fish, is there?

Are they mindlessly following the herd, er school, as they continually circle their glass-enclosed prison? Or is each one of them mindfully carving out a life of relative meaning in the midst of chaos and uncertainty? Do they represent some kind of waterlogged analog for modern, human life?

Perhaps I'm overthinking this. Yes, I AM overthinking this. They're just freaking fish. Goldfish, at that, as non-exotic as they come, likely destined to be flushed at the hands of a four-year-old too busy with an iPad to know or care about the basics of keeping a pet alive.

Yet here I am, shooting them through the glass, enjoying the spectacle. Because worthiness has little to do with their intrinsic market value (59 cents CDN at this particular store) and everything to do with our own sense of wonder.

We DO still have a sense of wonder, right?
