We're all a little lost

Signs are everywhere

The sign in the airport terminal asks a simple question: "Lost something?" I stop dead in my tracks, because the simple answer for us all is yes. And not just a scratched up old pair of sunglasses.

It's a serious question. Haven't we all lost something that mattered to us? Or someone? Aren't we all just a little lost ourselves? A little broken? A little off the main path of life?

I'll admit I stopped and stood there for what seemed like an exceedingly long while. My conclusion was a simple one: We may lament the things we've lost, but there's always someone nearby who has lost more, who hurts more, who's worse off than we are.

Not that any of this should ever be a competition, of course, but I took this sign as a reminder from the universe to have a little more empathy for others.

Because what they've lost isn't always visible. And a little kindness goes a long way toward filling the void.
