Reflection from a rural parking lot

After the sun has gone

I call this a context photo. Or a meta photo. The kind of picture you take when you want to remember what it felt like to be in a certain place, at a certain time.

Like this fast, reflective shot of Henrietta 2.0 after I finished shooting the sunset with the Nikon and prepared to head home.

It’s a hastily captured smartphone pic, and I took it to remember what it felt like to be there as the sun slipped below the ridge to the west and the sky gradually faded into night.

Like the test shot I shared last week, this meta photo tells a different, yet no less important, part of the story.

Is it remotely artistic or frameworthy? Nah. But it’s just as central to capturing more than mere pixels. I can almost smell the farms that bordered this busy restaurant parking lot.

Photography as trigger. Hmm, maybe this deserves further exploration.

If you’ve got a smartphone, how are you using it to tell more of the story?
