Londoners for a quarter century

Where it all began

Today is a bit of a milestone for our little family, as it marks 25 years since we uprooted ourselves and our then-2-year-old son and moved to London.

It was a bitterly cold day in the wake of a major winter storm that had followed us in from the moment we first left Montreal.

And I remember pulling into the snow-covered driveway, staring out at our new home and and hoping we’d somehow figure out a way to fill in the emptiness.

Time has been good to us. Zach grew and thrived. We welcomed Dahlia, then Noah, and somehow our definition of home eventually shifted 730 kilometres west of where it once had been.

I stood in the driveway earlier today, thinking about the journey that had brought us here, about all the other journeys we’ve since taken, from this unassuming driveway in an unassuming corner of the planet.

Our corner.

And while it might have taken some time for us to make it ours, I can’t imagine being anywhere else, and I’m thankful to have been on this journey, surrounded by these remarkable people I get to call my own.

They say you should never move on Christmas Eve, and the next time we pull into a new-to-us driveway, it’ll be any other day but this one.

But for now, I’m perfectly content to reflect on what it took to get us here, and what it took for us to turn what was once a strange, lonely place into the only place we want to be.

May all of our journeys be so charmed.
