Empty downtown storefront

Gone for good

It’s hard to ignore the pangs of sadness when a business fails.

An entire little community - a family’s livelihood, a place where customers and suppliers spent time, where employees worked, a fixture in the neighborhood - simply disappears.

What’s left is another drag on an already-challenged streetscape, another gap-tooth in an area filled with them, all these pockmarked storefronts serving as ghostly reminders of a more prosperous past.

We can’t catalog every last one, but an occasional photo serves as a reminder of how much entrepreneurs add to the life of a city, and what we lose when they’re forced to close their doors for good.

Note to self: shop local.
