Hypothetically speaking, of course, what would you name a dog - male, female, your pick - if you were to adopt one and bring it home?
Would you be considered insane for even contemplating such a thing?

A brief-yet-ongoing journal of all things Carmi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll reach for your mouse to click back to Google. But you'll be intrigued. And you'll feel compelled to return following your next bowl of oatmeal. With brown sugar. And milk.

Not sure, my brother got a new dog and named him "Dave".
Dad and I were probably driving the dog crazy for every time we called him we'd call him by other names, "Bob, Bill, Sam" etc.

We are contemplating adopting a dog. I like the name "Pete."
When we get a dog (we have to move first, so that will be in a long while) and it's a he we will name him 'Arthur' of course it's pronounced differently in English then in Dutch. A 'she'... we already had a 'Misha' and a 'Laika'...
Doogie if it's a schnauzer or Sophie if it's a Boston Terrier. We are itchin' to get a dog but we're currently overrun by cats, so the plan has been shelved for now. The one name we absolutely wouldn't use? Buddy - the #1 dog name in America in year's past.
I already have a Zorro and a Cleo...if I were to get another dog it'd have to be a neutered male with a low prey-drive (Z is a chihuahua) and I think I'd call him Max.
That's a fun contemplation!!!
For me it would depend on the dog.
I might call him Clark Kent.
I have to see the animal before a name pops into my head...though the last dog we had came with a name, and so did one of the cats. Sometimes you just don't get a choice...
I've always wanted to get a bull dog and name him Dennis. I don't know why. Or possibly Zaphod. But not Arthur. Never Arthur.
Not insane at all -- unless your house is already filled with animals. Are you thinking of getting a dog? Kids and dogs are an amazing combination and the best thing that could ever happen to both parties. I would name the doggie chewbacca or chewie if he/she was brown and large. Frodo -- if he/she were smaller. Can you say geek? Realistically I would have to see the dog first.

I did bring one home. Make that two.
Ginger (aka Yellow Dog) was an SPCA rescue - a beautiful yellow lab/pit mix that was found out in the wintery cold of an inner city park. She stole our hearts the moment we saw her.
Three months later I spotted a loose dog on the side of the road with half a chain wrapped around her neck. It took me two hours to entice her close enough to collect. She was half starved and a bit mangled by some sort of animal bites, very abused. I took her to our vet, paid the bill to get her fixed up, put posters up, contacted all the local rescues and vets - no one came to claim her. We called her "Dog" for the first month and then "Maggie" just popped out of my mouth like it was her name all along. She's our quirky sweet Misfit Maggie.
(I still want a dog named Harvey)
Our next dog will be named Scout. Yes, from To Kill a Mockingbird.
Hey I am here from Michele's! I would name my dog scruffy or patrick for a boy and for a girl daisy or dixie!! TTYL
I like typical human names for dogs. If it were a male, I'd probably go with Gus, and if I adopted a female, she'd be Shirley.
Hello, Michele sent me! This time, anyway!
DAVE is a great name.
But if I were getting a new dog, male or female, his/her name would be BISCUIT.
