Today's photographic mystery

I'm writing this from a place far away from home. It's early morning and I'm about to set out with my wife on a quiet walk beside a quiet lake. Our kids are so busy with their grandparents that they've probably forgotten that we're not there with them.

I'm taking lots of pictures, and aside from occasionally firing up my laptop to check the weather (and, of course, post a new blog entry), I am blissfully disconnected from the technology that typically occupies me.

Life is good around these parts this weekend. I hope it's good around where you are, too.

Your turn: What on earth is this?

Update: Go here if you're stumped and need a hint.

HI from Michele`s! I have no idea what it is, maybe some kind of rock with footprints in it!?

Some sort of rock that has been subject to volcanic action?

Have a good time, Carmi!

Hi Carmi, another mystery photo, good :)

Well it looks like rock, but I think its a close up of a brick. It reminds me of a particular style of brick that was quite popular in the 80s/90s here in Australia. They have a volcanic look to them much like your photo.

enjoy your break.

Hey Carmi...I'm guessing a crusty loaf of bread.

Ummm...I'm hoping that it's NOT a pancake! ;-)

Hmmmm.....beats me. But it makes a great photo.
Enjoy your get-away weekend.
PS....so WHAT is it?

With all the planetary discussion in the news this week, my first thought was, "Mars!" Ahhh, if only a relaxing family outing to Mars were that easy...

Is this the surface of a river stone?

I have no idea what it is...but I hope you and your wife have a wonderful weekend! :)

It reminds me very much of a flat, sunny rock I once stood upon with my grandfather, while fishing.

And then it doesn't.

It's a compelling image, though.

Hmmm thats a hard one, could be an over done pancake...some sort of cement mixe flooring...but it could pass for one of those satilite shots of the earth lol..I am curious to know what it is lol
Hope u and Morrah have a great weekend..enjoy!

While it LOOKS like the surface of a planet (or non-planet, like Pluto!), I'm thinking it's the bottom of some sort of cooked (or overcooked) food. Please hurry and tell us!

Carmi: It's either the Moon or a close up of the sponge on my kitchen sink! Enjoy your time away. I hit the road for the 4th time tomorrow night! I relate! I also think many bloggers are on the beach!

sandstone?

I think it's the surface of our ex-planet Pluto. Or maybe the beach of a lake filled with iron, like they have in north carolina.

OK going way out on a limb here. A nicely browned, pancake, macro shot. It looks almost too smooth to be a rock but the holes. Those could be the remnants of the batter bubbles.

Or it could be volcanic rock.

Okay, Carmi, what IS it?

it's disgusting looking... kinda reminds me of molded bread and sorta looks like bacon... but then it could just be a rock of some sort... am i close yet?
