Wordless Wednesday - A chalk circle moment

Child's tools of creation
Toronto, ON, June 2008 [Click to embiggen]

I first wrote about chalk circle moments a little over a year ago (click here to read the original entry.) Long story short, a CCM is all about taking the time to appreciate the little things that matter in life. I hope this image inspires you to capture such a moment today.

Your turn: You're sitting on the sidewalk - either alone or with a munchkin, your choice - with a box of colorful chalk by your side. What do you draw?

One more thing: Written Inc. has two weekly interactive features that I hope you'll dive into.:
  • Caption This is posted every Sunday and it challenges you to provide a witty caption for a new photo every week.
  • Thematic Photographic goes online every Wednesday evening, and it challenges readers to post photos of their own that reflect each week's theme. Our current theme: snack food. Come back tonight for our new theme...
I hope you'll pop in to both each week and take part. The more, the merrier!

I love the picture. It's very colourful, and I love how the texture of the little pieces of chalk is shown.

Thank you for dropping by and commenting on my WW post for this week. Happy WW day!

love the chalk picture. great colors.

I usually end up drawing bubble letters or something stupid like that. I go blank every time.

I like your thematic idea. I might be back for that if I can remember. Maybe I should make myself a note.

Flowers...always flowers.

And smiley faces...

And probably my name...

This is the kind of simple photo that captures and holds my attention--colorful, simple, and reminiscent of another time.

Oh....I'd probably draw something like flowers - the same kind that I drew in 2nd grade. I'm not that artistic when it comes to drawing.

Looking at that picture brings back such great memories of when my children were young. We used to spend hours out on our driveway making kitties and puppies and stick people and a sun with great big long rays coming out of it. Those were the good old days for sure. So I would probably draw a really bad kitty with a really big sun shining down on it :o)

Chalk is very popular in our house. I normally draw airplanes or cats - depending what my daughter asks for at the time.

I love the colors of the chalk. Reminds me of all the artistic creations washed away by rain that my kids drew on the driveway. Now they draw the three point line for their basketball games!

Happy WW!

My son loves this stuff...

What a lovely, happy looking picture.

I'd doodle, or write my name or my kids' names in bubble letters or something boring like that. That's what I usually end up writing in the sand at the beach. An artist I am not.

Wonderful concept. I'll have to give it a go.

Happy WW!

Great photo, the colors and texture are amazing!

As for what I would draw if I had a box of chalk (I loved drawing with chalk as a kid) it would be big flowers with curly vines and leaves, with my name in big fat letters! I'd use all the colors in the box and wouldn't stop drawing till I just had little nubs of chalk left.

i agree. i like the texture as clearly seen on the photo.

Arrrgh... *shiver* I.. um... hate chalk. The thought of it makes my teeth hurt. I don't know why. So I can't answer the question about what I'd draw. Oh, I know... imagine it's fingerpaints and an easel... I'd smear out a colourful meadow scene with a happy little tree... *giggle*

I do like your composition, though. It's not the photo's fault it contains chalk.

Happy WW! Thanks for visiting me earlier.

Goodness what won't we draw is a better question. Just before we moved overseas the temporary housing we were in had a parking lot instaed of a yard. We went through buckets of chalk. Check out my WW for March 12 to see some of the artwork from that summer. http://cyberbones.blogspot.com/2008/03/wordless-wednesday-giant-chalkboard.html

Great pic as ever. It reminds me of the tub I had as a kid with different chalks in it.

I'm afraid these days I wouldn't draw anything on the pavement as recently some children were cautioned by police for doing just this! It was classed as 'vandalism' and is a symptom of the police taking the easy route to meet their stats for the Government each month. A man was also done for eating a kitkat (biscuit finger) while driving which his wife had unwrapped and passed to him.

As a child I would often draw hop scotch grids out in chalk. Great theme for WW. Mine is up too :)

Usually when I sit down with the boys to play with sidewalk chalk, I decoratively write all of our family's names. Then I get into animals or cartoon characters that the kids recognize... but by then they have already lost interest and have gone off to do other things. I stay and draw... and draw and draw.

I would draw a happy face. Why? Because I'm happy like that. *grin*

I'm definitely checking out your thematic idea, Carmi! Sounds fun.

I love chalk! I think I WILL go draw on the sidewalk today. I have no kids, but I do have a big bucket of chalk!

Great photo. I love chalk--as a teacher I preferred it. Mainly for the chalkboard. I used to drag my nails down it if the students would be quiet the first time I asked. ;)

My kids used to play with chalk in their grandparents' driveway. There would be houses, and fish, and horses amd words. Thanx for the memory.

I draw flowers. My daughter draws cats.

I'm checking out your thematic photographic every week. I'll be posting when I have a photo that fits or time to take one!

Great photo, as always.

My kids love chalk. They dream of chalk. We have chalk everywhere.

Isn't it the greatest?

Great theme - I have nice picture of a board - a bit hectic at the moment busy consolidating everything and trying to compelet my work for the big move. But I will play also soon.

You're slowly but surely injecting new phrases into my vocabulary: Wordless Wednesday, Thematic Photography and now, CCM...

What do I draw?

A Peace sign. Both upside down and right-side up...for everyone to absorb. If I had my druthers, our streets would include a peace sign at every corner!

I have to apologize - again - to Danny (aka D.O.M. Dan) for accidentally deleting his comment when I was moderating it earlier. I was trying to do to many things at once, and my thumb missed the "Approve" button. I need to stop trying to multitask.

Anyway, here's what this esteemed blogger, husband and dad had to say:

--
Carmi, I don't remember seeing you in my backyard taking a picture of my daughter's chalk container. The similarities in total strangers' lives are so wonderous to me. May your childern enjoy playing with their chalk as much as my daughter enjoys playing with hers.

I plan to start paticipating in your Thematic Photographic feature soon. No picture from me today though.
