Thematic Photographic 123 - Black and White
A place to sit and ponder
London, ON, October 2010
This photo launches a new theme and a new week for Thematic Photographic, our weekly photo sharing extravaganza. The theme? Black and white. The deal? Share a similarly themed pic on your site, then leave a comment here. Visit other participants. Repeat as often as you wish. And have fun with it, because that's the whole point.
As you mull over possible photos for this new theme, I hope you'll keep this in mind: Black and white isn't necessarily a color thing. Sure, you can go with monochrome shots all week and never run out of cool things to share. But you can also push the bounds a bit by, perhaps, not thinking in terms of colors at all. Black and white can be obvious. It can be contrasty. It can be stark. It can evoke a feeling more than a visual. Where you go with this is entirely up to you, and there are no rights or wrongs.
Your turn: If you're new to TP, click here for more background. If you're ready to dive in, I'll step out of the way and let you do just that. Enjoy. And thanks.
One more thing: This pic has a story (I know, I know...they all do, but still.) I may share it later this week if you wish. Let me know. This just in: I've posted the story here.

wow, that was fun. i was looking at the image, trying to understand what the black shape was. then i read your caption and it all came into perspective. i finally saw the 3d of it.
Super theme - and great opportunity for me to revisit a photo I'd played with, graphically. Thanks Carmi!
Here's my entry!
Black and White is probably my favorite format. Great photo, and thanks for the theme.
Here's Mine.

Finding a pic for B&W was an easy choice for me. I posted my piece/pic here:

Thank you Carmi for allowing me into your wonderful, creative world:-)
I would love to hear the story. I don't know why, but the picture makes me think of a kid who is in trouble and has to sit and reflect on his mischief.
Usually our cats shine with their deep blue eyes... but in black and white, I thought Nicky, hiding under the bench looked so much more wistful. Mine is here.
that would be an interesting story to look forward to. i like black and white, great theme..,
When I began learning about photography, I focused primarily on black and white. I've now been involved with color for many years. I was just thinking yesterday that I'd like to work with black and white a bit.
Black & White - my favorite film medium.
Here's mine.
This was fun.
Here's where to find mine:

I truly enjoy the simplicity of this photograph. I had a difficulty at first understanding what it is.
When you mentioned black and white I thought back to my film days and the photos I have taken in black and white, however those photos are all on paper and somewhere archived in my basement storage area which has been difficult to navigate since we started our kitchen (at the end of May, ugh).
Here is my first addition to this weeks theme.
Oh, and I forgot to add, yes, I always like the stories that accompany a photo

Well you are right, your Black and white theme (perfect by the way) evoked memories for me, so I've given up old and modern...and well just check it out.

A very interesting perspective! Simple lines do not represent a simple interpretation! And therein is the magic!

Ok, I couldn't resist. My brother asked to see some more of my old black and white pictures, so I picked a few I really liked and posted them here, and then put a bunch more in a gallery mostly for my family, but you're all welcome to check them out.
I'm not really into black and white, but then I realised that our council's road mending efforts were a perfect opportunity to take something for this theme:
Calligraphic
Very timely - I don't know if it's my mood or the general 'shades of gray' look of early November. Even so, I had to play with the concept a little. Take a look here.
It's been a while since I joined in, but here's this week's post - http://notesoflife.co.uk/?p=737
Looking forward to seeing everyone elses!
I adore black and white photogaphy, so I went with my first B&W photo.
