Weird cloud overhead

The late, late show

Strange things understandably happen on February 29th, and this year’s leap day was no exception, as this weirdly shaped cloud decided to accompany the sunset over our neighbourhood park.

These random sunset walks that I’ve been taking are teaching me the value of patience. Because despite the fact that the sun had officially set at 6:14 p.m., the light was still reflecting off the clouds long after our beloved star had disappeared below the horizon.

I wasn’t alone in the park this night, as a couple of other folks had stopped nearby to shoot the disappearing sun. They disappeared as soon as it had set, though, the darkening clouds suggesting the show had ended for good.

But nature always has surprises up its sleeve, and tonight was no different. So I waited a bit, and was rewarded with the scene you see here. The reflected light intensified for just a few seconds before it faded out for the night.

I’m glad I hung around, and I wish more folks who stop to take in the spectacle would do the same.

We’ve been taught that patience is a virtue. What better way to bring that lesson to life than to linger a little longer when the skies decide to bid farewell for the day.
