The icicle works
The bushes beside our front door often wear a full head of snow when winter rolls in. When the sun comes out and gradually warms the snow, interesting things happen in this cold little microworld.
I don't often get to take pictures of the results because the kids usually get to it before I do. By the time they're done playing with it, there's precious little left.
This time out, however, a brilliantly sunny day coupled with temperatures near zero resulted in a rapid meltoff of the canopy. I worked quickly to grab whatever pictures I could.
The light that diffuses through ice under a bright sun is something I've always wanted to capture. It's elusive, but I'll keep trying until I succeed.
Your turn: I'm still playing games with my titles. Anyone want to guess?

hello Carmi!! Nice pic and my guess is "Icy Grass" sounds more like a food though..heheheh
Here from Michele.
Incredible picture...sorry not good with trivia. Michele and I always enjoy our visits.
I have no idea on this title lol. Great shot though!! From michele's!
What a pretty photo. I don't like winter much, but you have to give credit to how pretty things can be.
But I am glad that we managed to miss that winter storm. Usually we get hammered, but not this time.
I can name that tune in... 80s band one hit wonder in the US. Bigger in their home country of the UK.
Hi Carmi, here from Michele's!
...better, after I remembered how "near zero" equals meltoff.
Stuck in the F-world, I am. Fine photo!
New Wave Liverpool trio who hit the charts with their single "Bird's Fly (Whisper To A Scream.)"
Ice on a pine tree?
polar icecap? Nice photo, Carmi.
Front Door Icescape? I am so not good with titles!
But I like the pic, despite our brand new 16 inches of the white stuff today. Blech!
Here via Michele
Michele sent me tonight, Carmi. I am not good with titles either, but I do like the pic.
looks like one of my kids spilled something on the ground and it froze! ha
hi from Micheles this time!
Heck, I don't know - elusive flame? I'm terrible at this kinda thing - I'll leave the captions to the real writers :)
how cool! looks like a sponge painting that the kids do, haha! call it spongy ice.
here from michele's
Cool Picture! No pun intended.
Michele sent me.
Have I ever said how much I love stopping here to see what you've photographed? Thanks for another great image.
I'm popping in from Michele's. Didn't want you to think you got skipped!
that's a nice one. The intricate edges almost make it look delicate, like lace.
I would have like to have a time lapsed photo study of the family of snowmen we had earlier this winter. The temperature stayed just below freezing, but there was some slow melting everyday from the sun. After a few days, they were not recognizable as the Snow family anymore, but took on more of an abstract sculpture that nature changed everyday. A week later, after a few 50 degree days, the only evidence left was some rotten carrots and sticks in the lawn.
winter's lace... lovely!
What a fantastic picture!!! Truly amazing and so really BEAUTIFUL!
You are such an artist Carmi. I LOVE IT!
Michele sent me, Carmi.
I like your ice picture here but I like the picture below even more. Waffles! I guess this means that I'm hungry. LOL
Title? Ice on the Hedge?
title title title... i dont know, gardener's little helper?
heheh greetings from michele, and thanks for the suggestions on my blog. you got me to thinking that perhaps if i dont get cooperation from my management company, maybe i should go to my local paper.
Great pic, Carmi! I'm all confused. We had a little blizzard today in NYC and I got some great pix, but it seem s like it should be springtime or something. The weather is not making sense to me!
Your photography is as beautiful as your writing. Love the waffle quote below, and it cracks me up every time I hear it!
I am here via Michele's, but I always love dropping by!
Miochele sent me back your way, Carmi. The ice hasn't melted yet?
