So I did the easy thing for the launch photo: grabbed a moody shot of past-its-prime concrete slab just before sunset. While concrete is fundamentally a literal and figurative pillar of modern construction, the cracks of age betray the fact that it isn't permanent, and it isn't anywhere near as strong as the day-to-day forces of nature that will eventually, inevitably, turn it to dust.
Perhaps there's a lesson in this that transcends the principles of materials engineering. Perhaps we'll have a chance to shed a little photographic light on it over the next week.
Your turn: Please take a photo of concrete - or something that evokes or suggests concrete. Share it on your blog, website, Facebook page, wherever you store stuff online. Leave a comment here letting folks know where to find it. Feel free to repeat the process through the week - multiple submissions are always welcome - and bring a friend along if you wish because more is always merrier. Concretly is a fun theme to explore. Concrete can be heavy, or it can be light. Here's mine:
I commented earlier, but it hasn't shown up. My concretely post is at my blog:
Are other comments also pending? I am looking forward to seeing others' take on the theme.
Hello Carmi! Oh no! There's a crack in your concrete. I'm in for this theme too, here is mine.
Again a theme that required me to think hard! Here is my contribution.
Here is my interpretation.
In the concrete jungle.
How about some concrete results?
I had a lot of fun with the concretely theme!
Carmi, I think the challenge of taking a word and conveying it visually is brilliant, and it amazes me how you can consistently come up with words and images to match. Thanks for the playfulness!
Interesting theme! Had to look through a few picture to find some...
