Quiet scenes always seem to attract my lens. There's something oddly poignant about what happens to places designed for boisterous activity when everyone goes home. It's like watching empty baseball stadiums, hockey arenas and swimming pools. Somehow, places like this don't wear their silence well. They need life, and the gloom of a setting sun doesn't seem to fit the scene.
As autumn's chill deepens, I look at pictures like this and wonder how long it will be before we can return here with our kids. After a few months of winter, the warmth, and the children it attracts, will no doubt return.
Thinking longer-term, I wonder how many more years they'll be young enough to want to return at all. I guess we have to enjoy it - and them - as long as there is enough of the child in them to want to come back to this place.
AND THE ATMOSPHERIC RIVER BEGINS!

Hi! Christine (http://mommy-matters.blogspot.com/) sent me.
You can always sit on that bench when it's knee deep in snow in the winter.
I do and people think I'm a HOBO (or a drunken female santa claus)
Ah Carmi. Sounds like you need to take your little guy out to the park and run around a bit! Fill that space up. Last Girl On Earth
"Places like this don't wear their silence well"......what a nice line, Carmi. You always put a special twist on things.
It's funny. They may outgrow those spots but they may come back to them later.
There was a place in Lancaster County, called the Choo Choo Barn I loved it as a small girl, and then I outgrew it. There's nothing I'd like more to see right now than those toy trains.
Carmi, you are remarkably eloquent and your photos always convey such emotion. You are a truely talented man. You have an extroadinary gift keep using it to the best of your abilities.
Michele sent me again and I've visited all the posts above, so now I'm down here!
