Quoted - Growing BlackBerries

I went on a bit of a media tear at work yesterday. Research In Motion released a new-generation BlackBerry, the 8700c, powered by a cool new Intel XScale processor. Geeky, I know. But it means future devices will be able to do a whole lot more than just look up addresses and call Mom.

I was interviewed for the Globe & Mail, and the piece, RIM launches powerful new BlackBerry, is in today's paper. Paul Waldie is the reporter. They have cross-posted it here as well (the paper often web-posts pieces like this to the Business and Technology sections.)

I'll post other pickups here:

940 NewsTalk Radio, Montreal: MP3 file to be posted after air.
Station home page is here.

There's more going on in my media world, and I'll post more here later this week.

Your turn: Is there a BlackBerry in your future? Why? Why not?

I do rather like the idea of them - my current PDA is one of the best bits of technology I've ever had and it is starting to fail. But I suspect that I'll decide that its a bit indulgent...

I would love to be "geeky" like the rest of the world, unfortunately, it's not in my genetic makeup. I do not own a cell phone, a PDA, a blackberry, a laptop, or an IPOD. =) My motto in life is "simplify"...

Part of me would love to have one, but then I ask myself "why?"

If they come down to $30 or $40 then maybe. For now I just can't justify the expense.

I have one for work and the only times I use it are when I am out of the office during business hours (traveling on a business trip or waiting at the Dentist's office, for example).

I never take it to meetings, even if I am in meetings all day, because my biggest pet peeve is going to a meeting and someone sits there and types with his or her thumbs throughout. If I'm going to attend a meeting, I think it's appropriate to be present and participate. Using a Blackberry throught is just rude to everyone else.

I'd love to have one, but as I move to retirement there is no justification. Maybe if there is a use in retirement?

I have a 7100G Blackberry. LOVE it. Never leave home without it - or I turn around and go back for it.

It's a bit like an electronic leash... good think I like that sorta thing. ;)

Well, a blackberry would be fun, but I would rather have a jazzed out, blue tooth enabled top of the line Palm. I think the newest is the zire or something like that. It can go 0 to 60 in about 2 seconds. Pictures, games, email, schedule and MP3 on one place. Sweet!

Oh, and don't hate me. I created a meme tonight and I tagged YOU to help me spread it. Aren't I nice? It is the type that focus' a lot on special moments, and you seem to have that kind of bent.
