Reddish

Sometimes, you take a picture because you happened to be walking by and the color and shading jumped out at you. You capture the image quickly, without giving it a whole lot of thought. Then you hope that the depth of color that attracted you in the first place manages to make it to the final result.

Your turn: What is this? What thoughts come to mind the first time you see it?

I see a luscious, delicious, juicy, red ripe tomato. Mmmmmmm.....wish I had one right now!

Michele sent me this morning.

It reminds me of a big oriental poppy flower. But it also looks kind of like the bottom of a red bell pepper.

So when do you tell us what it really is???

Very summer-ish whatever it is, Carmi!

Beautiful color and texture. I see a tomato, too. Have a great weekend, Carmi!

I think it is a close up looking into a flower.

I thought it was the bottom of a red bell pepper too (I call it a red capsicum) It's lovely and glossy and bright red, you just want to eat it and savour the antioxidants.

But then it's so glossy that it looks a bit glassy.

Go on, what is it?

My first thought was a tomato, but upon closer inspection, I think it's some sort of flower. I love the color!

It looks like a very sexy flower, but it's probably just some unmixed paint in a paint can.

I always love you pictures Carmi, and your "take" on them, too. (I've taken about 300 pictures in the last couple of days...mostly flowers in my garden...it truly gives me such a 'HIGH'..you know?)

This picture is fantastic...When you get this close to the inside of the inside it always looks like the human body, waaaay deep inside, to me...That probably sound strange...but that's what I think of...!

I think it's a red pepper. Truly, my first thought was that it was an incredibly erotic picture!

Michele sent me, Carmi.

I'm going to go away from the trend here, Carmi. Everyone seems to be guessing natural living things. I think it looks more like glazed glassware after it's been through the kiln.

In any case, the color is beautiful. Good pic.

Whatever it is, the color and texture are magnificent...Carmi, you have an incredible eye.

The closest I can come is a bright red bell pepper, but it's almost too glossy ...

Please tell!

I see a tomato.....but then I see a flower.

Now I can't decide--either way I think the color is beautiful!

You'll never beleive this but I thought it was a small puppy in a red blanket. I kid you not. On close inspection I do believe it's the inside of a flower.

My first thought was an exploding star in a gaseous interstellar cloud.

By the way, you are not any relation to Geddy are you?

Time to end the mystery...though I AM enjoying seeing everyone's guesses.

The deal is kinda neat: the Westin Hotel in Seattle (the twin round towers) was hosting an art exhibit in its main lobby. As you can imagine, it's a pretty huge space that spans a city block, so there's lots of room for art.

The art in question was glass from local artisans. It was very hard to shoot because each piece was behind glass and lit by pretty intense, closely-set halogen lights. As a result, I was able to capture only a couple of them.

This one is a glass sculpture of a red flower. The color grabbed my eye from afar, and I knew this was worth keeping. I'm so glad you all enjoyed this...I had a ball trying to capture it faithfully.

A pepper?
Well, Georgia O'Keefe paintings also remind me of what this image reminds me of...

Yes! I thought from the texture and reflectivity that it had to be glass. Bell peppers just don't behave that way--even with a flash hitting them.

Great 'riddle'. My friend's wife does glass, so that was a first thought... but I kept thinking of some refreshingly fruity blended drink.

Glass art of some kind

I could swear it's the same deep, dark, faceted, contoured glass bowl that I photographed in Seattle Glassblowing Studio. The reds are simply captivating. Who knows? Maybe they've kept the same bowl on display all these years... or it's been enjoyed so much that they've replicated it again and again. Thanks for sharing this, for linking 2006 and 2011 so perfectly.
