Sometimes, I wander the streets of my burg and deliberately look for scenes that make me think. I usually seek out older areas, where the buildings aren't necessarily high-rent. As a rule I won't peek into windows - the whole peeping tom thing, after all - but stealing a look down a forlorn alleyway seems to be socially acceptable.

I liked this view as soon as I reviewed it on my camera's screen, but over a month after I first took it I'm still having difficulty figuring out what to call it. Simply put, I don't know what stories this place might tell.

This is where I turn it over to you...

Your turn: Please caption this image. Submit as many suggestions as you wish.

About last week's image - drinking and driving in Shanghai: Of all the pictures I brought home, this one more than most illustrated the social and cultural differences between our respective societies. I guess some things get overlooked as a society that's been suppressed by communism for generations suddenly discovers the lure of capitalism.

BreadBox takes it with this sardonic take: "In an attempt to curb population growth, China encourages drinking and driving"

Honorable mentions go to:
  • Scottenvonrotten: "The problem with having a Dewars in China is 3 seconds later you want another one."
  • Carolyn: "Highway HopScotch"
  • Sister AE: "Now THAT'S what I call a drink for the road!"
  • Anne: "The directions say 'exit before scotch' (hic), not after."
More next week. Until then, happy captioning!

You know I went to visit my childhood home and the way I walked from school seemed shorter and diffferent

I remember my dad saying when I was kid that he did the same had visit his home and that their was a path with a gate and that he remember it being so scary but how being adult changed the way it looked

what we perceive as a child isnt what we see as an adult

well this picture for some reason reminded me of that

Carmi, I love this picture. I love the lines and the colors. I like the way it seems to contain a bit of mystery. Thanks for sharing it.

Reminds me of those alley streets where police chases the bad guy in those action movies.

I do like the photo and the conrast in colours of the brick.

This way to The Really Secret Garden!

That reminds me of similar walkways in my hometown.

Thanks Carmi, for the honorable mention on last weeks photo! :)

I love this one, especially the one on the right. I may be wrong, but I'd guess the right building is older because the brick and the way it's layed looks much older than the left one. The brick on the left chimney looks a bit more modern and the overall building smoother & less aged. I also like the way the windows on the right one are shingled over (or appear to be from my perspective). They add a nice texture.

Anyway... My caption is:

"Enter/Exit alley via gate only!"

Looks a little scary to me. I'd caption it,
"Enter at your own risk."

I love this picture, Carmi. It just makes me WANT to explore the alley.

It's the simple paths that lead us to the most magnificant of places.

Wow, great captions! I had thought a secret garden lay behind the gate as well.

Great photo!

It's borrowed from a song, but it's the first thing that came to mind:

"Where the steets have no name"

If you look hard and long enough you can find a way out...even between a rock and a hard place.

When no one was looking, Priscilla snuck quietly down the alley towards the unassuming gate. She didn't want to share the magical secrets hidden behind it just yet.
