Swirled texture
London, ON, April 2008 [Click to embiggen - you know you want to!]

Sometimes, you just want to reach out and touch it. Go ahead: I promise I won't tell anyone.

Your turn: Photographic texture. How do you achieve it?

One more thing: If you're new to Written Inc., I hope you'll stick around for a bit and read a few other entries. I promise you it won't hurt. We're still accepting submissions for this week's Caption This as well. Click here to kickstart the fun.

Oh wow--what a great photo. What is it?

Happy Wordless Wednesday!

Macro shots whenever possible, a steady hand, and always, always a "good eye".

Works every time!

(I'm laughing maniacally right now, btw :) ).

Water, for me, has been a difficult medium to capture; you've done so well here, Carmi.

I had to click the larger view and put my nose right to the screen to believe it was water. Happy WW!

Water? I thought it was maybe petrified wood.
So, how do I achieve photographic texture - apparently not well :)
Wonderful photo!

I agree with Will. I did a double take myself. If it weren't for your title, my mind would still be wandering. Nice capture Carmi.

That is such a cool shot, Carmi! It's one that could be SO many different things - chocolate, water, rocks - to name a few. It's all a matter of perspective and imagination.

I'm still working on basics, like lighting and composition, getting my settings right. I haven't tried for specific textures. You've managed to do it quite well.

My post this week was a very early attempt at those basics with my old 35m film camera from over 20 years ago. I'm still working on those basics today with digital.

Check it out if you get a chance at Just Some Thoughts

It's a great picture and someone said water, but all I could see were tortured souls writhing in agony, or maybe it was the top layer of brownies?? I'm not sure, but I think my pain pills have messed up my perception little bit. ;)

If that is water ..that is very muddy !! :)

Happy WW !

Looks like a brownie, freshly sliced from the pan. Happy WW. (And yes, you could say that my WW this week has texture, too.)

Fantastic, as always.

I'm not an expert photographer - I point & shoot & hope for the best. Usually textures are accidentally interesting for me :)

Like Robin, I find photographing water to be a challenge. Great shot, Carmi!

Heh heh, I was thinking the surface of a pan of brownies based on the color--and that was putting my nose to the screen too!!!

Great pic. Never seen anything like it. Thanks for stopping by.

With the sepia tones, this looks like chocolate, which I would mind touching either!

I now have the use of a mini tabletop tripod, and that used with "macro mode" really helps capture texture on things.

Hey Carmi, that is a great texture. I don't use textures yet, but I am going to learn how very soon!

Is everything ok with you today? You're not saying much, again.

I hope your dad's doing better.

Keeping you and your family in my prayers!

Talk to you soon.

I love this shot - it's so emotional!

As for your question, I've had my digital camera for a few years now, but I'm still not past the play mode, so I tend to take the same shot with only one setting change (and not even a lens change!)

Just because I can.

I'm a fan of my tripod too.

Very nice. Texture is not as easy to photograph as one would think, and you did a beautiful job of it!

I haven't a clue how to photograph textures, but I've always loved the lines and textures in your photos Carmi.

Wow, I never would have known it was water if you hadn't named it as such. Looks like the bark of a tree!

Stop by and see my WW when you have some time!

I'm going with brownie too; it's a fun texture to look at.

(Do you use a tripod? It's a very steady shot.)
