Don't anger the Apple fanboys

I think I've gotten some Macheads angry with my latest column for TG Daily, Apple, go cheap or go home: Time to dump the elitist strategy.

It's always a kick to stoke the fires. I'm perpetually amazed at how so many commenters fail to really read a piece before they blow their wad. For all the sophistication of today's web-based interactive media, the online landscape remains dominated by Cro-Magnon. Either way, great fun.

Disclosure: We're a mixed-geek-race family, with Windows boxes - XP, Vista and, gasp, 98 - sharing space with two Macs.

Your turn: Mac? PC? Does any of this matter, anyway?

I don't know... I think you tend to favor on what you learned. I started on a PC, so I like it.

It's kind of like reading James Michener novels...the first one is almost always the favorite.

I am a Mac Fan Boy! I love apple computers and OSX is THE best OS around! I'm not the biggest fan of some of their business practice but for the most part it's worth it.

I do like to stick it to them though. For instance I on a Dell Mini 9, hackintoshed to run OSX so...

I love Macs. I have had an Apple since I had my first personalized computer. I have never owned a PC and therefore it is not fair for me to criticize them. But the few ones that we have around my work place do not hold my affection at all.
I think what annoys me most about PCs is that they lack a sense of invention. They seem to copy anything cool from Apple at all times.

I'm also from a mixed-geek-race... started out on two Macs, but also have had about 6 workstations with Windows OS over almost two decades now. There are pros and cons to each, and they each lend themselves well to different activities in some cases. Embrace everything available! Always cracks me up when I see people picking sides like these are religions! ;)

They are both tools -- and they both have their pros and cons.

I'm waiting for the ubiquitous invisible computer, you know, the one that you talk to and always works. (Right up to the point that it runs amok and tries to kill you.)

I've heard that if a Mac fanboy ever bought a Prius while discussing modern art, the resulting density of smugness would collapse upon itself, creating a dangerous smugularity...

The "Go cheap or go home" is spot on.

As a techie, I view Apple's computers and design as "interesting". It's usually innovative and geared towards making the device easier and quicker to use.

However ... Windows PCs are also easy and quick to use and you can buy two of acceptable price & spec for the price of a cheap Apple.

No contest - They'll stay "interesting" but won't get on my radar until they're competitive on price.

Boy, you like controversy, don't you? ;-)

My very first computer was the first Mac (1984). Twenty-three years later I bought an iMac, which I love, and in February I got a MacBook.

The rest of my family use PCs, except recently a friend gave us an older iMac that the kids use now, too.

The first computer in our family was an Apple II, back around 1979. Most of my own computers have been my husband's hand down Macs, until my current one which I bought brand new. I love my Mac and especially iPhoto - but I use PCs at work and don't really find it a big deal to switch back and forth.

Judging by the responses, one would think you proposed serving chocolate covered fetus on a stick at the Christian Planned Parenthood Clinic.
Ford vs. Chevy! P.C. vs. Mac! Great Taste-Less Filling!
While my technical prowess consists of an Underwood typewriter and an overhead projector, and I am not fit to comment on the computers in the debate, it seems that the proponents are not likely to be swayed from their opinions anytime soon.
Not to worry though. They are all at the new Star Trek movie finding flaw with the differences from the original.

Snigger. You started quite a good debate over on the other site. Mainly technoreligion though.

But why do I need 2+Gb of memory to run a word processor and browser on just about every platform nowadays? And when I reply 'Yes" to someone, the email is 40k in length?
