Thematic Photographic 132 - Curves

Waiting for a cruise
London, ON, November 2010

I've always had a thing for the Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, especially in its convertible form. It was - and still is, for those lucky enough to own one - a lovingly designed car that happened to be relatively affordable. Time has been good to the Karmann, and it ranks, to me anyway, as a timeless example of thoughtful, functional engineering.

I think this well maintained example of the breed is a great way to launch our new Thematic Photographic theme, curves. I hope you're game for some curvy fun with your lens over the next week.

Your turn: The deal is fairly simple. Just take a picture with a curve in it and post it to your blog. Leave a comment here, and visit other participants to spread the joy. Feel free to share already-posted or archival work, too. Don't be afraid to stretch the bounds when deciding how to interpret the theme - there are no rights and wrongs here. And have fun, because that's why we do this. Click here for more background on how Thematic works.

Carmi - I have to agree with you, the VW Karmann Ghia is one adorable little car. I've liked them ever since I was knee-high to a tadpole.

nice car and color.

hm, curves eh? to line that up with my 365 self-portrait could take either boldness or tact and taste on my part.

Curves and Volkswagons, eh? No problem.
How about this picture?

When I was a teenager, I used to dream of owning just such a car. I wanted a Karmann Ghia or an MGB. I settled for a Pinto. Funny right?

That is a great shot of such a classic. Karmann did a fantastic job of designing a handsome coupe while utilizing some of the styling cues from it's parent car, the oh so famous beetle. This is my contribution to curves this week, it seems it holds a similar theme.

Love these curves. Classic cars never go out of style. I think there is truth in the old expression, "They just don't make 'em like they used to."

Found "curves" to be a difficult one. Finally came up with something.

Here is my interpretation of it. My friend Leia's incredible very pregnant belly photographed last year.

*For those looking at work, these images while tasteful, are nudes. So don't feel obliged to look. And it's OK Carmi if you don't want to post this. :)

Ah Mike, you always make me smile. I'm guessing the puritans stopped reading me when I decided to write about mixed dancing. We're good :)

All: Mike's work is, in a word, incredible. If you haven't seen his photography, follow the link, then stick around for more. He's the real photographic deal.
