Finding warmth in the sand
I'm still working my way through the pictures from our vacation to a warmer land. It's been over a month since we came home, but I find that spending time immersed in the images keeps the memories close. It also serves as a counterpoint to the extreme cold that whistles just outside the window as I write this.
That's our youngest munchkin, Noah, heading back to his towel to see his grandparents. I'm surprised that his little legs weren't blurred in the picture. He essentially has two speeds whenever he's moving between two places: running, and running really fast.
I'm tempted to say that I really like this picture because it was technically difficult to shoot. Generally, taking pictures into the sun and over reflective surfaces is usually a recipe for disaster, so I'm happy I was able to get anything.
But beyond the cold logic of the photographer, I remember that instant where I was surrounded by perfection. Everyone around me was blissfully happy as they enjoyed the simple pleasure of a beach on a warm day. Nothing mattered beyond that moment. That's peace.

I don't know anything about photography but I find the shot very relaxing.
Cheers from Michele!
GREAT GREAT Photograph, Carmi...Truly fabulous! Everything about it is super! You are such an amazing photographer, my dear....!
Here from Michele tonight!
Keep on posting these wonderful photos of Noah (and his sibs) on the warm Florida sands. It helps to see warmth when it's so cold outside. Brrrrr.
Michele...
This is a prize winner, Carmi! I'm getting warmer just looking at it! And I know what you mean about looking back at the photographs. I looked at my pictures from my recent trip to Egypt, and it took me right back there! Hope you are having a great weekend.
That is a wonderful scene. Just like the first commenter, I know next to nothing about photography, but spending time on the beach with family and watching our children enjoy the beach is something I can definitely relate to. Wonderful.
Michele sent me.
Thank you for reminding us how close peace actually is - in our own families, our own lives, close enough to reach out and touch it if we could just be still long enough. Great post, Carmi.
Great photo. Yes, pictures of the beach help when it is cold. We were in the 70's here today at "The Beach" but tomorrow the high is supposed to be only in the 30's. I wonder if a picture taken at the beach when it is 30 gives the same feeling as one taken when it is 80. To test this the pictures should not have people in it. Hmm. Maybe I have a project here.
Here from Michele.
Hey Carmi! Loving the photos... Makes me want to go to the beach. Except not the one two blocks away, ...The one in the BAHAMAS!
Here via Michele this evening!!
My best memories are of children running through the sand toward towels and Mom's with sandwiches and Lemonade. This reminded me of some wonderful memories at the beach or the lake.
Michele sent me this time.
A nice photo, Carmi. Stuff of which memories are made and kept alive.
It's a beautiful photo Carmi, and so wonderful to see when everyone is just sick to death of all the cold weather!
Did you know I just love the name Noah?
Ahhh beach... oh to be there right now as I too am feeling the wrath of the Ontario weather. But who are we to complain, we've had it pretty good this year. Thanks for your comments and concern for me on my site. Funny, the woman who hit me lives in London! Haha go find her for me.
What a beautiful picture! I'm going to the Bahamas in a few weeks...looking forward to those beaches!!
Here via Michele's!!
I'm back via Michele's because we happen to be night owls apparently! :)
I do love visiting you though! Your photography makes me quite envious. I wish I could take pictures like that!
We just finished taking a trip through memory lane. Amazing what memories photos will bring back!
Love the one you have posted here. I'm hoping a beach trip is in my near future.
here from micheles tonight
The challenge of a beach vacation is to find time to relax on the beach, without feeling the need to hustle and bustle with sightseeing...
Hey man, how are you doing? Just had a look over your pics and really enjoyed them. I know what you mean about photos preserving the memories... so, so true.
FYI, looks like we'll be in Toronto from July 8 - 18 but the first week we'll be up at a family cottage. Tess will be in London visiting a friend (with the whole gang but not me) from around the 18th to 23rd. So we'll keep in touch and see if we can connect.

AHH now that was nice..the kind of photo that warms a person. Especially after the cold 100klic winds, freezing rain and sleet from yesterday here...even caused a 60 car pile up...it weren't purdy.
Hi Carmi - back via Micheles today and love your 'it's so cold I'm posting hot pics' mentality. It was about 35C here yesterday and very warm and still overnight. bleuch.
Weird huh, that some of us living in the heat yearn from the cold and visa versa. I'm hoping today gives us a little respite.
That beach... that's where I want to be right now. This blast of cold I don't need and I hear that it's going to get colder tonight!
That is an absolutely gorgeous shot! If I were to try to take that exact same picture it would come out extremely badly. That picture looks so professional, and makes me wish I were someplace warm right now :)
Here from Michele's today!
And its those moments that make up this precious thing called life....:)
Great photo!
Hi Carmi! Here via Michele today.
After I read your post, I looked at the photograph again and saw it in a different light. Beautiful.
That is an awesome shot of Noah..
Two worlds meet. This is a great shot!

my thursday 13 from a week ago was my 13 fave pix from vacation at myrtle beach! can't remember if you commented or not... but go check them out... i know what you mean about the memories! i miss it... especially since we have a ZERO windchill here right now!
here from michele's but I come visit you anyway!!!!!
warm memories of a warm place - that's a lotta warmth.
it's 55 here in Los Angeles today. It wa 48 last night with some nice rainfall. we were in the 80s two weeks ago. My Lemon tree was tricked into full blossom mode.
Isn't that what really makes a photograph perfect? Capturing a moment in such a way that you can convey the taste, the feel, and all that good stuff within a two-dimenionsal snapshot.
I not only see the blissful peace you mention, I can feel the hot sun and taste the warm salt air. Good work.
What a nice photo to look at, especially with the ridiculous cold we're having here. But then again, this is Wisconsin!
Here via Michele's!
