In the few seconds between their being squeezed onto the palette and shmushed into a multicolored mess by the paintbrush of a child, these dabs of paint become a highly temporary microworld of color and texture.
The surface texture in the dying light of a late afternoon sun adds a final touch.
I'm glad I was able to capture this before it became not much more than a memory.

I just posted six or seven great paintings of babies--the third in a series including paintings of Jesus and Clowns: The Taboo Image Series. The babies are nice. And more colorful than the clowns!
I love children's paintings, by the way. They haven't yet learned all the things you have to un-learn in order to really paint.
Sorry, Carmi, I don't do pictures on my blog. But I wanted to let you know that my first reaction on seeing that photo was 'ketchup, mustard and... whatEVER is that slimy green stuff in the middle?'. Very relieved to read that it was paint!

This is the coolest shot. We are big finger-painters here, and the mixing of the colours is always the best part. I put the paint in an old ice cube tray, it keeps the mess down a bit!

Oh My Gosh!! I thought the exact same thing as Zinnia. Funny! I thought, ewwwwwww, ketchup, mustard, and relish left over on a paper plate from my last barbeque. =) Now I'm hungry for a cheeseburger....yes, i'm weird.

My initial reaction was the same as Zinnia's (and Killired's and Plumkrazee's): mustard, ketchup and... pesto? mint sauce? What is that?

I too thought it was condiment art! I recognized ketchup and mustard but was unclear on the green stuff. In fact, I wondered if it was some sort of uniquely Canadian sandwich spread.

It's a little late, but I put some colour in a post for you. Nice picture...I can almost smell it.
This is a neat idea. The winter is dragging on here as well, although I can't complain since we've had a rather mild one. It has been known to snow in April here, so I can't get my hopes up that we're in the home stretch.
But just to show what frame of mind I'm in right now: I saw that photo right after the McDonald's photo and couldn't help but think "mm, french fries and cheeseburger". I swear I thought it was ketchup and mustard. And as a result, I'm starving!
I always post pictures, so take your pick! Here in New Mexico we get very used to brown and grey. The main source of color, even in the summer, is the sky. It is gorgeous, whether clear blue or cloudy.
