Impressionistic moment

Monet was here
Laval, QC, August 2008

Sometimes, autumn seems to come early. (Please see here for a similarly-themed photo from the same series.)

I captured this photo - which continues our weekly Thematic Photographic theme, autumn (please click here to participate) - while out on a morning walk by the waterways that meander through my parents' and in-laws neighborhood. As I took it, I thought to myself that I need to do this more often.

I've been taking my own advice in recent days, grabbing the camera for a quick walk around the block before I get down to the business of writing for the day. It's a nice break between where I need to be and where I'd ultimately like to be. The shutter, it seems, will always win. And for good reason.

Your turn: Peace by the water. Please discuss.

As a child I lived a short walk from a lake. We used to take the dog up there on walks and skated on the ice in winter. There was a tree with a thick branch overlooking the water that most of the kids in the neighbourhood climbed at some point in their lives. I spent many evenings sitting on that branch, looking out over the water, and thinking (or reading).

As an adult, I wandered back that way. The woods are gone. The tree has been removed. Houses surround the water and the new homeowners shoo'd me away.

It's true when they say you can't go back again...

Lovely shot. I do love Impressionist art.. Monet in particular. And this is quite reminiscent of his work.

How very Monet of you!!

There is always peace by water for me, no matter what body of water it is.

i love this photo. Impressionistic painters have always been my favorite. I like the way they put down color to express what they saw. This looks very much like Monet's work - peaceful.

I just found your blog and I'm so glad that I did. I like your approach. I will be back when I have more time to read.

Great title for the photo, Carmi. I have a couple of shots like that and they are so relaxing. Nice work!

Yes, Monet is soothing to my soul. It is the same for large bodies of water ... the beach calms me like nothing else can. I am anxious and fretful when I'm away from the beach. I feel completely satiated and calm when I'm near. She is powerful and awe inspiring and no matter what distruction she has planned I am still at peace when I'm closer to her.

I love the blurring of the colours in this photo Carmi. Beautiful.

I can see the river from my living room......and it always calms me and makes me feel connected to a larger world out there.

I can't imagine living somewhere where a body of water isn't close by. It feeds me.

I love this picture, sweety, but then I am biased. :D

It reminds me of the painting I did in art class last year.

Your art (I truly believe the photos you take are art!)is beautiful. I love seeing the world through your eyes/lense.
